Welsh Dragons Season Review Capsule
If this team was a Celebrity it would be ...... Gareth Bale. Welsh stalwart who always seems to perform well, had a great season in 2011 but 2012 didn't quite work out at the business end. Still has talent to burn though and good times look set fair for the coming 5 years, based on the talent they have in the bank.

WELSH DRAGONS SEASON REVIEW CAPSULE

Record ? 9-5 (2nd in Bob Timoney Conference ? Wild Card play-off team, lost in semi-finals, lost WGAS Bowl)

Season in a nutshell ? The team that hates Blair Walsh. Another good year from the reigning champ who put up a great defence of his title; started very slowly at 1-4 but came with their typical late charge winning 8 of the last 9 to clinch a play-off spot, then lost their semi-final on the back of a Kickers 41 point outing, which quite frankly sums up the absurdity of this game. Adrian Peterson under-pinned this team with an "are you f*****g kidding me? comeback, and it will roll on in the coming years with two new fantasy superstars in the making at the QB position in Russell Wilson and Colin Kaepernick. This enabled franchise stalwart Tom Brady to be cashed in for a nice bounty, and we don't mean the jumbo sized odd tasting chocolate that your Aunty gives you at Christmas. Fell just short this year but is primed to be right there again in the years to come.

Keepers going in ? T Brady (QB), A Peterson (RB), D Murray (RB), Julio Jones (WR) and AJ Green (WR)

Notable draftees (Rnd selected) ? Fred Jackson (1) ? no member of the Jackson family has fell this flat since Jermaine launched a solo pop career, Matt Flynn (2) ? was seen as often as Shergar, Michael Floyd (4) ? who?, Reggie stately Wayne manor (5), Toby "shot through Gerhart and you're to blame? (6), Emanuel Sanders (7)

Trades in/out ? Enough to keep us interested and when a trade lands in Dragons world it tends to be a significant one. Traded a 5th round pick to the Dodgy Athletics for QB Russell Wilson which proved a masterstroke, traded QB Tom Brady to the Outstanding Warrants for a 1st and 4th round picks, traded WR Julio Jones, RB Demarco Murray and a 1st round pick to The Shy Teds for RB Doug Martin ? lets hope he stays fit.

What went right ? Brady did what Brady does, and supported by stud WR's AJ Green and Julio Jones, and Adrian Peterson who had a season for the ages, the Dragons roared back from a slow start to claim their place in the play-offs. Scored 90 or more in 8 of their regular season games, and won the games they had to have in the regular season just edging out 3 other teams for the final spot. From the draft Reggie Wayne proved a steal of epic proportions in round 5 and Connor Barth also panned out nicely but overall it wasn't one of Tim's stellar set of selections. Went 3-1 in the close games decided by 10 points or less which ultimately got them over the line.

Where it went wrong ? Blair bloody Walsh. When you put up 95 in a play-off match-up you'll win 9 out of 10 but not this one. Demarco Murray was nicked up as usual, whilst Matt Flynn's disappearing act led to an extra 5th round pick being burned ? fortunately that eventually turned into a benefit with Russell Wilson's arrival, though it didn't quite happen like Tim drew it up from his bunker in the valleys. Some of the other early draftees contributed little, notably Fred Jackson, Michael Floyd (who?) and Toby Gerhart though he was basically a very high CYA pick. The TE position did next to nothing though it seems every team says that in the fantasy wasteland spot, and only 2 more teams had more points put on them than the Dragons so they didn't get much assistance there either. Overall this team had way too many big fantasy players to keep down, and not a lot did go Pete Tong.

How this team will get better ? Not a lot of places to pick holes here but getting off to at least a .500 start after 4 weeks would help, and more points from the back end of the roster ? TE, K and Defense ? will help as all were in the bottom echelons last year. More hits at the top of the draft are needed than last year but again that's being pickier than an anorexic at the all you can eat buffet.

What's been done already ? Stud RB number 2 has been brought in to bolster the other stud RB, alongside the two fantasy gold running QB's and star WR. All of Tim's keepers are in the top 5 fantasy players at their positions, based on our scoring system. Two words for the other 11 GMs ? "oh bollocks.?

A Current Guess at the likely 5 Keepers ? R Wilson (QB), C Kaepernick (QB), D Martin (RB), A Peterson (RB) and AJ Green (WR)

What's ahead ? With 5 strong keepers to be augmented with 5 picks within the first 4 rounds, and 20 picks overall, this team could be quite frighteningly good next season. They've been in the play-offs the last 2 years and have never had a losing record in their four years in the FFL; I see nothing that will end that streak in 2013 barring several stars dropping off a cliff in terms of performance.
